چکیده

Motion tracking based on commercial inertial measurements units (IMUs) has been widely studied in the latter years as it is a cost-effective enabling technology for those applications in which motion tracking based on optical technologies is unsuitable. This measurement method has a high impact in human performance assessment and human-robot interaction. IMU motion tracking systems are indeed self-contained and wearable, allowing for long-lasting tracking of the user motion in situated environments. After a survey on IMU-based human tracking, five techniques for motion reconstruction were selected and compared to reconstruct a human arm motion. IMU based estimation was matched against motion tracking based on the Vicon marker-based motion tracking system considered as ground truth. Results show that all but one of the selected models perform similarly (about 35 mm average position estimation error).

A Real-time Motion Tracking Wireless System for Upper Limb Exosuit Based on Inertial Measurement Units and Flex Sensors (TECHNICAL NOTE)

This paper puts forward a real-time angular tracking (motion capture) system for a low cost upper limb exosuit based on sensor fusion; which is integrated by an elastic sleeve-mitten, two inertial measurement units (IMU), two flex sensors and a wireless communication system. The device can accurately detect the angular position of the shoulder (flexion-extension, abduction-adduction and interna...

3D Arm Motion Tracking for Home-based Rehabilitation

This paper presents a real-time hybrid solution to articulated 3D arm motion tracking for home-based rehabilitation by combining visual and inertial sensors. The Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) is used to fuse the different data modalities from two sensors and exploit complementary sensor characteristics. Due to the non-linear property of the arm motion tracking, upper limb geometry information an...

Upper Limb Portable Motion Analysis System Based on Inertial Technology for Neurorehabilitation Purposes

Here an inertial sensor-based monitoring system for measuring and analyzing upper limb movements is presented. The final goal is the integration of this motion-tracking device within a portable rehabilitation system for brain injury patients. A set of four inertial sensors mounted on a special garment worn by the patient provides the quaternions representing the patient upper limb's orientation...

Inertial sensors for motion detection of human upper limbs

Purpose – This paper seeks to present an inertial motion tracking system for monitoring movements of human upper limbs in order to support a homebased rehabilitation scheme in which the recovery of stroke patients’ motor function through repetitive exercises needs to be continuously monitored and appropriately evaluated. Design/methodology/approach – Two inertial sensors are placed on the upper...

Dissertation Inertial and Magnetic Tracking of Limb Segment Orientation for Inserting Humans into Synthetic Environments

Current motion tracking technologies fail to provide accurate wide area tracking of multiple users without interference and occlusion problems. These limitations make difficult the construction of a practical and intuitive interface, which allows humans to be inserted into networked virtual environments in a fully immersive manner. Advances in the field of miniature sensors make possible inerti...
